In today’s economy some have experienced a great deal of stress with the loss of jobs and homes due to no fault of their own. As we are bombarded with the word “recession” repeatedly on daily basis, can easily cause people to become stressed wondering whether or not these events will affect them directly or not.

Stress is nothing but a collective group of our emotions becoming overwhelming in our minds and bodies. It is important to take time out of the day to unwind from the everyday pressures of things to do. If we continue to allow ourselves to function in overload mode our body will begin to respond with developing a whole array of sicknesses, emotional breakdowns, and in extreme cases even death.

Stress is nothing that will ever be eliminated from our lives, but we can learn to cope with it and understand how our bodies react to it. Once we identify the warning signs and learn how stress affects our bodies, we can also learn to manage it. According to the American Academy of Family Physicians, two-thirds of office visits to family doctors are for stress-related symptoms.

7 Tips to Lower S.T.R.E.S.S Level

Slow Down!
Our whole society seems to be in a constant rush to get things done or make it to the next place. It is important to slow down and enjoy life. There are only 24 hrs in a day, but there are 7 days in a week to get it all done. Remember, you do not have to accomplish everything in one day…

Take Control!
Losing control can easily cause your mind to become overwhelmed. If you take the effort to bring your schedule under control it will help you ease your thoughts and allow you to have a much clearer perspective on the tasks ahead. Remember, with some control you can ease some stress; with total control you can regain peace of mind.

Relax!
Relaxation is key to calming the mind. Once your body relaxes your mind will follow. Meditation and deep breathing will help clear the clutter from your mind allowing your body to maintain a more relaxed state. Relaxation and meditation does not have to be complicated. Simply sit in a comfortable position, or lie down, and focus your mind on your breathing. Breath slowly in and exhale out fully… and repeat the process for 5 to 10 minutes, keeping your focus continuously on your breathing.

Exercise!
Getting adequate exercise not only helps your body maintain a healthy weight, but it also cancels out the reaction of stress on your body. Stretching and strengthening the muscles helps keep your neck, shoulders, and back loose, helping you deal more effectively with your everyday task.

Sleep!
Allowing your body to get adequate rest is the most important thing you can do for your body. Without enough rest the body will not function properly. Lack of sleep can be detrimental to your mental health, leading to loss of memory and difficulty focusing. Getting the recommended 8 hrs will improve your performance throughout the day.

Seek Help!
When all else fails and you can’t seem to manage your stress seeking professional help is a necessary step. There are many wellness coaches and stress management counselors that will help you identify the things that cause stress in your life. These professionals will also help you develop and implement a plan of action to relieve your stress.
